Marlene Annette Girard

Marlene Annette Girard age 88, passed away peacefully Thursday June 4, 2020. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday June 12, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Little Canada with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Marlene Annette Girard was born May 15, 1932 to Fred and Jeanette (Bernard) LaCroix.  She graduated from Jefferson High school and attended Briar Cliff College.  On June 18, 1953 she married Robert D. Girard in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Teresa and Arthur Pohlen.  The couple was blessed with 5 children and lived in many places, making lifelong friends along the way.

 A faith filled education for her children was important to Marlene. She worked as a secretary at numerous offices and organizations to help provide for their education. She was extremely proud of all of her children and subsequent 13 grandchildren. She liked making holidays and every birthday a special event. She was a wonderful, loving mother. She enjoyed connecting with people through her church, Bible Study groups, and card clubs.  She opened her home to anyone who needed a place to stay and welcomed them with a soft smile.

 She took pride in her home and was a skilled caregiver to her husband after medical issues threatened his life. Marlene and Robert found time to travel and enjoyed visiting their children around the world. They enjoyed watching their grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.  They were married 55 years, until his death in 2009.  She appreciated a good book, chocolate, good music and never ending Sudoku books, but loved the Lord and her family above all.  She will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know this kind and gentle woman. 

Marlene is survived by sons, Robert (Janet), Jon (Judy), Rick (Linda); daughter Suzanne VanHorne; daughter-in-law Kathy Peery; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Teresa Pohlen and Frances McCabe; sister-in-law Peggy LaCroix; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Robert; son Ronald; brother Alfred LaCroix; son-in-law Richard VanHorne; brother-in-law Arthur Pohlen; nephew Shaun McCabe.
