Jerome (Jerry) Sr.
Born on July 17, 1927, in St. Paul to Fred and Josephine(Dorn) Schmidt. Raised on the North End of the city, he attended St. Bernards Grade School and graduated from Cretin High School in 1945. Jerry was a proud US Army World War II Veteran, serving in Okinawa. In 1948, he was united in marriage to Mildred (Millie) Kukas until her death in 2012. Their 64 year marriage was blessed with 3 children; Catherine(Cathy), Christine(Kiki) and Jerome(Jerry Jr.) Jerry was the last Chief Clerk in the Mail & Baggage Department of the St. Paul Union Depot until it closed. He then continued working at BNSF Railroad until he retired with Millie to their lake home on Lake Shamineau in Motley, Mn. Jerry move to Wadena, Mn. In 2017, where he passed away on August 29, 2021. Preceding Jerry in death are his parents, beloved wife Millie, daughter Christine(Bill Sells), brother William, sister Geraldine Turnquist and special friend Bettie Montpetit. Surviving Jerry are is children; Cathy Collova of Maplewood, Jerry Schmidt, Jr.(Jeanne) of Wadena, 9 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, Sister Mary Pingley(Wayne) and brother Fred(Kaye), nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was a talented musician and enjoyed playing his keyboard right up to 10 days before his death. He was a loving and generous man and will be deeply missed. Memorials preferred.
