On March 14, the world lost a great man: a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a friend, a
colleague. Damon Dranchak, age 56 of Plymouth, MN passed away unexpectedly of a heart
attack.
Damon was born on February 14, 1963 in Mt. Clements, MI to Ronald and Patricia Dranchak.
He received two master's degrees from Keller Graduate School and Liverpool University, UK and
an undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University (he was a proud Sigma Phi Epsilon
brother). He dedicated his life to working in the restaurant industry starting at age 16 as a line
cook to developing his skills, and working in various executive positions at world renowned
companies (Auntie Anne’s, Caribou Coffee, General Mills, to name a few). His final place of
employment was Dunkin Donuts/Legacy Concepts LLC in Minnesota. He married his beloved wife Jolanda in
1998 and together they had two children, Kai (21) and Bailey (19).
Damon had a passion for cooking. He loved to explore various spice combinations and find a
way to combine his favorite ingredients together to make a scrumptious meal. He could never
follow a recipe nor could one ask him to make the same dish again—he found that to be too
mundane. The kitchen was his creative outlet and the kitchen was always filled with joyous
noises that only a passionate cook could bring. Damon loved all music, but Pearl Jam was his
jam. He was kind, gentle, and caring, and always was willing to listen more than speak. He was
incredibly proud of his family, especially his children.
Damon was preceded in death by his dear mother, Pat, and his brother, Kevin. He is survived by
his two children, Kai and Bailey, his wife, Jolanda, his father, Ron, and sister, Kim.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
As Damon always said: Make it a great day; you won’t get it back. And for us in mourning, he
would most likely say: this too shall pass.
Damon, words cannot describe how much we miss you, and we will always carry you in our
memory and our hearts.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 S 4th
Ave, Anoka, MN 55303. Visitation at 3:00 pm, funeral service at 4:00 pm, followed by the light
refreshments and fellowship.
